Return to Snow
11/09-2006   Keystone, Colorado
At about 8:30 a.m. I stand on the top of North Peak lift in Keystone, the
new training site for the U.S. Team.  The road to this moment in time has
been truly amazing.  I do not know if I can describe in words the thoughts
that flash through my mind-countless moments of both agony and ecstasy
since February 14.  I think of all the people that got me here, and how truly
thankful I am to every one of them.  I wish I could personally share this
moment with you all, just know I felt you there with me.  It is moments like
this that can really define a person, and shape the course of their future.
For myself, I know that as I stand on skis and feel the cold breath of the
mountain, I am truly thankful to be here, to experience this moment and all
others that lay in wait.

I just completed my first run.  I was very nervous at first-would I
remember how to stand on skis?  Would I mentally be able to link turns?
That first sensation of the edge of my downhill ski biting in to snow was
pure bliss, and brought a huge smile to my face.  I proceeded to slide my
way down the slope, stopping to speak with each coach and athlete I saw.
All were very surprised to see me on skis, and also excited.  I now stand at
the bottom of the slope, and looking up realize for the first time in many
months that I really love this sport, and am not ready to give it up.  The next
few days will be a lot of fun!
